This policy explains how Gary Wales (“I”, “me”) collects, uses and protects your personal data when you visit garywales.com, and how cookies are used on this site.

What data I collect

The only personal data this site collects is what you choose to give me through the contact form: your name, email address, and the content of your message (which may include a phone number if you provide one).

I don’t use this site to collect data automatically through analytics, tracking pixels, or marketing cookies.

How I use your data

I use the information you submit through the contact form solely to respond to your enquiry, for example to discuss a potential project, provide a quote, or answer a question.

I don’t use your contact form details for marketing purposes, and I don’t sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for their own use.

Legal basis for processing

I process your data on the basis of legitimate interest: responding to enquiries sent to me is a reasonable and expected part of running this website, and I only use your details for the purpose you contacted me for.

How long I keep your data

If your enquiry turns into a project, your details are kept as part of normal business and accounting records, in line with HMRC’s record-keeping requirements (currently five years after the relevant tax year).

If your enquiry doesn’t lead to a project, I’ll delete your message and contact details within 12 months, unless you ask me to keep them on file for future opportunities.

Who I share your data with

Your contact form submission may pass through third-party service providers that make the website and form work, such as my website hosting provider and email service. These providers process data on my behalf and under their own privacy and security obligations. I don’t otherwise share your data with third parties.

Cookies

This site currently uses only strictly necessary cookies, meaning cookies required for the website to function correctly (for example, cookies set by the hosting platform itself). These don’t require your consent under UK law.

This site doesn’t currently use analytics, advertising, or social media cookies. If that changes (for example, if I add visitor analytics or embedded video from YouTube or Vimeo), I’ll update this notice and add a cookie consent banner where required by law before those cookies are set.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data I hold about you

  • ask me to correct inaccurate data

  • ask me to delete your data

  • ask me to restrict or object to how I use your data

  • ask for your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@garywales.com. I’ll respond within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy as the website develops, particularly the cookie section if analytics or embedded media are added. The “last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent version.
